State Government helps young artist to study at prestigious design school

A Young People and the Arts International Scholarship of $30,000 from the Liberal-National Government will assist a Kalamunda artist to study for a Masters of Fine Arts in Sculpture at the prestigious Rhode Island School of Design in the USA.

Joshua Webb was one of 11 artists and arts organisations to receive a total of $159,286 through the latest funding round of the Young People and Arts Grants Program. Funding is awarded for new works or to bring established works to a wider audience.

The Young People and the Arts Grants Program is open to artists aged 26 years and under to assist young people with access to, and participation in, a broad range of arts and cultural activities.

Other projects in this funding round include a theatre collaboration dealing with identity for youth in the Pilbara and an interdisciplinary community cultural development project about reducing, reusing and recycling.

All applications to the Young People and the Arts Grants Program are peer assessed by members of the arts sector including practising artists, arts managers and individuals with relevant knowledge and experience.
